Thanks to your generous donations, six of the dogs we are rescuing from a Romanian kill shelter are now on their way to their foster homes! The four original 'summer puppies': Aria, Kobe,Zara and Zelda, along with their tiny kennelmate Luna and Cooper, the handsome black-and-tan hound rescued from death row.

Travel safely, sweet dogs, we will see you all soon. After their long trip to the UK, all these dogs will be going into loving foster homes. After a little time to adjust and be assessed, they will be ready for adoption!

Please continue to share and donate to our fundraiser. We are still in desperate need of help with the transport and care costs for these dogs and the others we will be bringing over later this month.
Thank you all so much for your support, your generosity is literally saving lives!

Thank you so much to all our supporters who have shared and donated to our summer puppy appeal. We are so grateful to everybody who is helping us save the lives of these desperate dogs this summer.

Please keep an eye on our appeal as we update it with news of the dogs who will benefit from the funds we raise. Thanks to you, we are over half way to our goal now! Please continue to share our fundraiser with all your friends and family. We are so grateful for every pound we receive and it truly does save the lives of these dogs at risk of death in public shelters.

Thank you from all at Give a Dog a Home! x

Save Our Souls this Summer!

These four orphan puppies (named Aria, Kobe, Zara and Zelda) are on ‘death row’ in a Romanian public shelter, desperately waiting to be rescued before it is too late. Most Romanian public shelters (also known as death camps) are harsh, overcrowded environments where dogs are at constant risk of attack, starvation, disease and brutal extermination.
Give a Dog a Home UK have foster homes lined up and ready for these sweet puppies, as well as their adult sheltermate, another lone Romanian orphaned pup, Ben, and several other adult dogs, including Johnnie Walker, from Greece. All we need now is help to raise enough money to cover their vaccinations, passports and transportation to UK foster care. These vulnerable dogs are so affectionate and keen to find their forever families.
Once in our foster homes across Sussex, Surrey and Kent, the dogs will be given the care they need and will be assessed and then put up for adoption.
Please donate anything you can to help us rescue as many dogs as possible this summer. Every pound makes the world of difference for these desperate pups.
Thank you from all at Give a Dog a Home and all the dogs who will be saved.

All of us at Give a Dog a Home - UK would like to say a huge thank you to all our suppawters who shared #DogsAtPollingStations photos with us today! We were so overjoyed by your response and seeing all your beautiful dogs joining you to vote.
Good night everyone. Apologies if your photo was missed from this hasty collage, it will not have been intentional.

Well, the General Election is now upon us and it's time for us all to head to our local Polling Stations and cast our votes for the future.

We would love our Give a Dog a Home 'suppawters' and their dogs to take part in the #dogsatpollingstations trend.

Please take your dog to vote tomorrow and send us a photo of him/her outside the polling station! Dogs are allowed inside all polling stations but photographs cannot be taken within the premises.

We will share your doggy polling station photos throughout the day on Facebook and a collage at the end of the day on the website.
All dogs welcome.
Looking forward to seeing your photos!

GaDaH in The Sunday Times

Give a Dog a Home are featured in an article in the Sunday Times today. When I (Lynne) was approached, I decided to give accurate information (listed below) about the extensive mandatory and voluntary health checks and precautions European dogs go through before they are admitted into this country. Not much of this, subsequently agreed by email, made its way into the final edit but overall I hope the article gives a reasonably balanced view on this controversial and complex subject, particularly as we were up against the big charities, who have formed an alliance against foreign rescues.
See the image below for the full article...

Stated below is a full account of the information that had been agreed in advance for use in the article above:

“We rescue dogs from public and private shelters in Romania, Greece and Cyprus. The public shelters are often particularly cruel, housing far too many dogs at once. Many stray dogs rounded up by dog catchers and placed in these shelters are at risk of extermination.
Once dogs are reserved by a reputable charity or individual they can begin the process of health checks, which are signed off by a vet. Dogs are then transported typically 12 at a time and fostered in the UK.
DEFRA has very stringent regulations on dogs brought into this country. All dogs must have full vaccinations and be microchipped, and adult dogs are always neutered; DEFRA even checks the ingredients in the worming medication.
We comply with all government rules, and only use professional transporters. Our lower age limit for rescue dogs is 3 months and 3 weeks old, because puppies cannot have their rabies vaccination until 3 months, and then must wait 3 weeks before transportation. Most dogs are at least 4 or 5 months old by the time they make the journey.
Puppy farmers might try to bring dogs which are under-aged or lacking proper health checks by hiding them on vans or else procuring fake vet signatures.”

URGENT APPEAL FOR ADOPTION

Lady recently arrived from Cyprus, but her first adoption was unsuccessful as she did not get on with one of the resident dogs.
She is currently homed with an emergency fosterer in East Sussex, but we need to find her a new home ASAP.

Lady is a loving, cuddly and very small dog with a sweet personality. She can be possessive so we would like her to be homed with no other pets or children, but would consider homing her with a larger male dog.
Please consider this sweet girl and share with your friends and family too! She has a lot of love to give and will make an adoring companion.

More information about Lady can be found on her profile page.
If you are interested in adopting her, please fill out an application form and we will get in touch!
