What We Do
Please note, we will only progress serious applicants who have thought carefully about what is involved with street-dog ownership and are prepared to offer a lifetime’s loving commitment to a chosen dog. Please read our FAQ page and Arrival of Your Dog before applying.
We consider each applicant on an individual basis and do home dogs to families with children, people who work, elderly people and those with disabilities or health conditions, provided we can find a dog that will suit your individual circumstances. However, adult dogs should not be left unsupervised for over 4 hours or, for puppies. a maximum of 2 hours. Therefore, we do not home dogs to applicants that are away working for longer than this period, unless arrangements can be made for the dog to be supervised and walked.
Some of the dogs featured on our Dogs For Adoption page are in foster in the UK and are available to be visited in the fosterer's homes by suitable applicants. Other dogs are abroad, in countries including Romania, Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria. These dogs are in public shelters, private kennels or living on the streets, waiting for a chance to be transported over to a home. Once we have suitable forever or foster homes lined up, the dogs that are currently abroad can be brought over to the UK. This process takes around a month.
Conditions abroad can be far, far worse for a stray or abandoned dog than the UK, where we and our dogs are lucky enough to have some of the best dog and cat welfare infrastructure in the world. Please Read 'All You Need to Know About Romanian Rescue Dogs' and 'The Stray Dogs of Europe' and '5 Reasons to Rescue Dogs from Abroad' for more information.
It is not always easy to acquire a rescue dog, even with the best of intentions! This site aims to facilitate the process for you. Please look at the Dogs for Adoption and their descriptions; then if you are interested in adopting, please fill out the Application Form.
After you have filled out an application form and have established contact by email, we will telephone you. Please be patient if we take a little while to respond, we are a very small team of volunteers and only have one homing coordinator. After the phonecall, one of our team will then visit your home for a homecheck. Homechecks are vital to ensure your house is suitable and safe for a dog, suggest any adjustments that may need to be made before the dog arrives and discuss what is involved with caring for one of our dogs.
The dogs are all known to us, especially those within our foster homes, and we select dogs carefully before we rescue them. We will equip you with information before your dog arrives and will also be available to contact should you have any queries or updates. As our phone-line can be busy, it is best to contact us first through our website, email address or Facebook page, but if you would rather talk over the phone, this is an option available to you too.
We work closely with other rescues and have often visited these. So we know the dogs and have often known them all their lives, which greatly helps with matching them to your requirements. The dogs featured are chosen to represent a range of puppies, young adults, mature dogs and oldies as well as some with a disability. If none of the dogs displayed on the website appeal to you. there are always more dogs available in the future.
